Caring Bridge - January 2020
Caring Bridge Journal Entry by Darby — January 22, 2020
We have to laugh. We have to find moments that make us laugh. Even if it is jokes only we get. If you know my beloved, you know he has a good sense of humor. So for all the appointments he always tries to make the medical staff laugh.
I will say most of the nurses always get his sense of humor and laugh, but the doctors usually don’t. Not sure if that is just because they are so focused on what they need to do to get to whatever procedure or it is just a personality thing.
Today Michael got a port. Today’s funny at the hospital was that one is the forms Michael had to sign said he needed to have a responsibile adult around today. We both looked at each other and said, “well who is that going to be as we aren’t responsible adults.”
The forms he signed had a few things that we had never heard of before in these forms like “don’t make big life or business decisions.”
Shortly after, I was chatting with Wendy via messenger when doctor came in. He had the thickest wavy black hair. It looked so soft that I told Wendy it made me want to reach out and touch it, but that might be a tad bit inappropriate. See maybe not a responsible adult.
We laugh at these things that happen in this process. Because we have to laugh.
Today we needed the laughs as the port was more painful than was described. So we had to laugh at the not making big life decisions and the responsible adult to make the experience a little better.
Michael has some pain this evening. Getting used to being able to feel the port as he moves and swallows. We know in the long run this will make things much easier.
(Michael thought I should title this entry “imPORTant”)
