2nd Infusion

“With my weak and shy veins, I knew a port was likely with as many treatments as they want to do. After 7 pokes in 2 days, a port sounds pretty good right about now.”

Michael is right he has shy veins. The first infusion it took the nurse a few times to get one. Yesterday’s labs, the nurse found one, but it didn’t want to keep going to fill all the tubes. She got another spot on his hand to fill the last and even that didn’t want to flow well. Today’s was two nurses and the lab tech from yesterday and four tries before they decided to send him to the hospital to do an ultrasound to find a vein. Even that nurse has issues and asked Michael if he was willing to get a port.

We both mentioned a port to the nurses at the oncology center. Michael and I both remember his Mom resisting getting a port and after wishing she had gotten it sooner as it made things so much easier. It seems like a smart choice for Michael as well as the staff.

After the hospital put in the IV line, we headed back to the oncology center for Michael’s infusion.

We left the house at 11am and made it home just at 5pm. So before the next infusion at the end of the month, a port will be put in.

The staff from the people checking us in, to Michael’s oncology team, to every person we come in contact with there are amazing. They want to help. Any issues, they offer solutions to try and if that doesn’t work they will keep working to find something to help.

Second infusion done. Long day. Tired, but glad to have such an amazing staff helping us through this all.
